Аннотация
Для многих критиков Джеймс Х. Коун - «отец» черной теологии освобождения - был самым важным (черным) теологом Америки в ХХ в., который энергично занимался насущными проблемами расовых отношений в США, справедливости, страданий черных людей и их гражданских прав. Он много писал и громко выступал против того, что называл «первородным грехом Америки», - против (белого) расизма, тем самым оказывая давление на белых американцев, особенно на белых христиан, и заставляя их отказываться от практики расизма, направленного против черных, и от своего пренебрежительного отношения к ним. Также Коун призывал белых американских христиан и белую церковь к воплощению освободительного послания библейских пророков и Иисуса Христа, а также категорического требования Бога, адресованного христианам: поступать по справедливости, быть праведными и ненавидеть угнетение. В своих политико-теологических и этических трудах он пробуждал совесть американцев к противодействию тем силам и системам, которые угнетают и дегуманизируют черных и отчуждают другие маргинализированные группы в Америке.
