Политические аспекты почитания локальных святых в средневековом Уэльсе
Аннотация
В центре внимания статьи находятся средневековые культы валлийских святых в их связи с политическими процессами, охватывавшими как Уэльс, так и весь остров Британия. Образы чтимых праведников, связанные с ними тексты и религиозные общины привлекались как светской, так и церковной властью для решения стоящих перед ними задач, связанных с легитимацией материального состояния, правового статуса или общественного положения. Представители правящих домов валлийских королевств могли подчеркивать свою связь со святым, тем самым поддерживая его почитание на местном уровне в случае, если это помогало подтвердить право на власть или сохранить свою жизнь и потенциал для дальнейших действий в ситуации временного проигрыша. Духовенство же реализовало политический потенциал культов в более широкой перспективе: пыталось отстоять свою автономию от внешней силы — власти архиепископов Кентербери; защитить свое материальное благосостояние от набегов нормандских лордов англо‑валлийского приграничья, а также в спорах друг с другом; добиться признания своих правовых иммунитетов от представителей валлийской знати. В статье анализируются исторический контекст подобных случаев, цели, способы, а также общая результативность использования местночтимого культа в качестве политического инструмента.
