Изменение понимания природы теологии есть признание ее способности инкорпорировать в свое содержание специфический социально-культурный контекст, в котором она возникла, а также человеческий опыт со всеми его достижениями, противоречиями и проблемами. В статье контекстуальность теологии рассматривается, во-первых, как ее способность трансформировать универсальную истину христианства применительно к конкретным обстоятельствам; во-вторых, как теологический ответ на конкретные современные социальные, политические, экономические, культурные, экологические и т.д. проблемы и ситуации. Рассматриваются причины возникновения контекстуальной теологии, ее обоснование с точки зрения миссиологического подхода, ее связь с социально-политическими процессами, а также ее конкретные разновидности: теология освобождения, феминистская теология, черная теология, квир-теология и др. Выделяются противоречия, связанные с контекстуальной природой теологии, а именно, ее ограниченность контекстом, его излишняя конкретизация и абсолютизация, что затрудняет диалог между теологиями, возникшими в разных контекстах. Делается вывод о соотношении универсального и партикулярного в контекстуальной теологии: существуют такие вероучительные положения, разделяемые всеми христианами, которые превосходят любой конкретный социально-культурный контекст, в то же время находясь с ним в диалектическом соотношении.
