<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>This text gives and overview of the book colloquium “Reading Islam, Understanding Muslims” launched in September 2022. Through the lens of the past ten workshops, an attempt is made to assess the contribution of the discussions to the development of current knowledge about Islam in Russia, as well as, more importantly, to the development of a community of scholars who are in one way or another concerned with Islam in their research. The review shows a methodological value of discussing the concepts of the sociology and anthropology of Islam.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>социология ислама</kwd><kwd>антропология ислама</kwd><kwd>ислам в России</kwd><kwd>исламоведение</kwd><kwd>ридинг-группы</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>sociology of Islam</kwd><kwd>anthropology of Islam</kwd><kwd>Islam in Russia</kwd><kwd>Islamic studies</kwd><kwd>reading groups</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group xml:lang="ru"><funding-statement>Материал подготовлен в рамках гранта Российского научного фонда № 22-78-00038 «Мусульманские социальные сети в современной России: старые вызовы безопасности, новые идентичности и дискурсы».</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Беккин Р. «Люди в верности надежные…»: татарские муфтияты и государство в России (XVIII–XXI века).
